National Institute of Public Health, Romania

The Institute provides technical and methodological guidance to the public health network of the Ministry of Health. It is the most important promoter of public health policies in the field of non-communicable diseases, priority communicable diseases and health in relation to living and working environments.

By monitoring and assessing the health status of the population and the prevalence of risk factors, it participates in the prioritisation of strategic public health objectives and provides an integrated information system for public health management.

At a national level, the specific professional coordination of the Institute is ensured by four national centres and one national public health laboratory and the specific regional professional coordination of the Institute is ensured by six regional public health centres.

MD, PhD, Dana Mates is occupational health senior specialist, and technical expert in occupational medicine for the Romanian Ministry of Health. She has more than 25 years of experience as an occupational health specialist with a particular interest in occupational cancer epidemiology and prevention. Is the principal investigator in national, European and international research projects aimed to study environmental, occupational and genetic risk factors of lung, esophageal, head and neck and kidney cancers. Is a member of the international scientific consortia ILCCO and INHANCE. Author and co-author of more than 120 original papers, published in high impact scientific journals of oncology, public environmental and occupational health, genetics and heredity, with more than 9000 citations.

MD, PhD, Dana Mates

Dr Violeta Claudia Calotă is Principal Physicist at CNMRMC-INSP. She graduated from the Faculty of Physics, Bucharest, Magurele (1989-1994), completed a master’s degree in Cellular Biophysics and Biotechnology from Carol Davila” University of Medicine, Bucharest, Romania (1999 –2001) and a PhD in Physics (1998-2006). She participated as a biostatistician in other projects: · Connecting European Cohorts to Increase Common and Effective Response to SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic: ORCHESTRA (2020-2024) · Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer in Romania: ROMCAN (2014-2017)

Dr. Violeta Claudia Calotă

Staicu Catalin Alexandru is an Expert at INSP. He graduated from the Romanian American University, Bucharest(2005-2008) and completed a master's degree in the same University(2008-2010). His main duties and responsibilities are: Data base management for Drinking water Quality in Romania, web designer, graphic designer, administrator for a national electronic register(RESANMED). He participated as a IT Expert in other projects: · Connecting European Cohorts to Increase Common and Effective Response to SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic: ORCHESTRA (2020-2024) · Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer in Romania: ROMCAN (2014-2017).

Staicu Catalin Alexandru

Suciu Nicoleta is an Expert I A (analyst). Is a graduate of the faculty of Cybernetics, Statistics and Economic Informatics within the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. She works whit statistics and databases at the National Institute of Public Health. Nicoleta collaborates in several research projects, as follows: "Antibioresistance study of enterobacteria isolated from food of non-animal origin", “Multifunctional technological system for breeding and using useful insects”, "Natural food supplement with anti-stress properties”. For 4 years, from 2014-2017, she was part of the “Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer in Romania” team. This project was completed with a course in Biostatistics in Islanda, Reykjavik, and several publications: "Profile of common prostate cancer risk variants in an unscreened Romanian population”, "Occupational lung cancer in nonsmokers”, "Determinants of health in Roma patients in Romania", “Profile of common prostate cancer risk variants in an unscreened Romanian population”, as well as two poster studies that were presented by Global Congress on Prostate Cancer in Vienna 2016.

Suciu Nicoleta

Dr Felicia-Steliana Popescu is an Occupational Health Senior Specialist, Senior Lecturer in Health promotion at work, in radiological protection of exposed workers, and technical Adviser of the Ministry of Health. She is Head of the Department at the National Institute of Public Health since 2020, and Head of the Clinical Department of the Radiopathology Center at the Institute of Public Health Bucharest from 1995 to 2010. She is directly involved in the coordination of research activity in the field of OH, OH risk assessments, and training activities for OH physicians. She is involved in the elaboration of the Romanian regulation on Occupational Health from 1999. Is a member of the Management Board of the Romanian Society of Occupational Medicine, and is Vice-president of the Romanian Society of Radiological Protection, member of ICOH. Voinoiu Angelica Marilena is an Expert at INSP. Is graduated from Bioterra University Bucharest(1993-1998), and completed a master's degree in Hyperion University Bucharest (2012-2014). Her main attributions and responsibilities at the workplace are: Achieving the National Register of Occupational Disease and transmitting data to EUROSTAT. Participation in studies and research programs to assess health in relation to the environment according to the domain of speciality. Participation in preparing the annual report on population health in relation to environmental factors. Typing of numerous guides and expert reports in the field of National Center for Monitoring Community Environment Risks activity. Collection and processing of data concerning air pollutants in Romania. Manager of the Register Environmental Risks (ReSanMed) - checking, processing databases in the register and generating reports regarding the environmental impact on the health status. Voinoiu Angelica Marilena

Dr. Lavinia Delia Călugăreanu is an Occupational Health Senior Specialist, Senior Lecturer in Health promotion at work, in radiological protection of exposed workers. She works as an Occupational Health Senior specialist at the National Institute of Public Health since 2010. She was an Occupational Health specialist in the Clinical Department Radiopathology Center from 1999 to 2010. She has expertise in occupational medicine, which includes, experience in the identification of health monitoring priorities in relation to various risk factors exposure at the workplace, development of strategies regarding the prevention and surveillance of occupational diseases and work-related diseases; involvement in studies and research programs regarding health assessment in relation to work; participation in the organization of continuing education programs and training activities for the OH physicians; experience in the analysis and proposal of amendments to specific occupational medicine legislation; experience in providing technical assistance and providing health surveillance for health care workers. MD Silvia Teodorecu is Public health and management senior specialist, Head of the Environmental Hygiene department of the National Center for Monitoring Risks in the Community Environment, the technical structure of the National Institute of Public Health from Bucharest, Romania. She is directly involved in the technical and methodological coordination of the environmental risk factor assessment departments of the territorial public health directorates, environmental health monitoring; analysis and dissemination of results and knowledge on health determinants and in the preparation of draft legislation in this field of competence.

As Director of the National Center for Monitoring Risks in the Community Environment, the technical structure of the National Institute of Public Health from Bucharest, Romania, Andra Neamtu has been managing and organising the work of the national centre for about 15 years and has been also involved in the National Programme for Monitoring Risk Factors in the Living and Working Environment of the Ministry of Health (since 2010 as National Technical Coordinator); Vice-President of the National Commission for the Approval of Plant Protection Products; Member of the Ministry of Health expert group (Health in relation to the environment and climate change); National focal point for risk communication in Romania's Representation to ECDC (for environmental risks); Member of the Ministry of Health Specialty Commission in Hygiene.
