Timisoara Municipal Emergency Clinical Hospital, Romania

SCMUT is the oldest and largest hospital in Timisoara (1751). Currently, the hospital has 13 buildings, which comprise 25 academic clinics, 12 having unique profiles in the region (e.g. Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy, Surgical oncology, Occupational Medicine, Gerontology etc.). It serves the Western part of the country’s population. It has 1,020 beds and 40,000 patients/ year. The SCMUT staff is represented by 2,544 people, including 800 resident doctors. The Occupational Medicine Compartment has 20 beds for diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of occupational and work-related diseases, and an Occupational Medicine practice which monitors the health status of SCMUT workers. The OM Compartment represents the clinic teaching base for resident physicians and students in medicine. In the last 10 years, SCMUT was involved in 15 EU projects, 3 of them being related to cancer. Mammography screening for breast cancer, serological testing for HBV, HCV, HIV and thyroid function assessment were supplementary prevention activities for the hospital personnel.

Dr Popescu is Senior Lecturer in Occupational Health, graduated in Medicine from "Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara (UMFT) and obtained a PhD in Internal Medicine from the same University. She worked as a specialist reviewer at the Timiș County Health Insurance House. She is an occupational physician at SCMUT, in a medical private praxis and coordinator of the Occupational Medicine Clinical Compartment. She is a Lecturer and resident physicians’ coordinator at UMFT. Since 2022 she has been teaching a master’s course at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara. Her main fields of research are occupational medicine, occupational health, work-related diseases prevention, occupational risk management, work and nutrition. She has participated in national and international projects as a team member: “NetWoRM - Net Teaching in Work-Related Medicine”; “NetWoRM3 - Sustainability; EMUTOM - project; AGROSH+ “OSH+ for the European Agriculture sector; EXIMIOUS - Mapping Exposure-Induced Immune Effects: Connecting the Exposome and the Immunome. She has been an ICOH and EASOM member since 2006.

Lect. Dr. Florina Georgeta Popescu, PhD

Dr Pauncu is a Professor of Occupational Medicine, and graduated in Medicine from the “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara (UMFT) where she obtained a master's in "Management of Social and Health Services". She worked as occupational medicine researcher/senior physician at the Institute of Public Health, Timisoara and in different medical praxis, in the SCMUT Hospital. She formed occupational medicine residents (coordinator). She taught a master's course as an associate professor at the Polytechnic University Timisoara. She is a full professor at UMFT. Her main fields of interest are occupational medicine, workers’ health and work-related diseases prevention, and occupational risk management. She participated in national and international research programs, as a team member / Romanian part coordinator (AGROSH+, OSH+ for the European Agriculture sector”; EMUTOM project, “NetWoRM3 - Sustainability, "NetWoRM - Net Teaching in Work-Related Medicine". She is a member of the stakeholders’ advisory board of the H-WORK project, ICOH and EASOM member since 2006; UEMS former member, EASOM board member.

Tudor Ovidiu Rares Olariu is a Professor of Parasitology, Head of the Discipline at Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Head of the Clinical Laboratory at the Municipal Clinical Emergency Hospital in Timisoara, Romania. Dr Olariu is an MD, and PhD and received a license in Clinical Laboratory, in Romania and a public health microbiology certificate in Richmond, California, United States. Dr Olariu was a Visiting Professor at Stanford University, California (2006-2008 and 2012-2015) and a lecturer at Santa Cruz University in California, USA (2015 and 2018). Dr Olariu’s main field of competence in research is on toxoplasmosis, hydatidosis and intestinal parasitic infections. Since 2008, Dr. Olariu occupied the position of Professor of Parasitology at Victor Babes University in Timisoara, where he coordinates, besides his teaching duties, the residency programs in laboratory medicine. He is also a PhD coordinator in Medicine. Dr Olariu is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in the UK, founder of the Scientia Parasitologica Pro Vita Foundation in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, member of the International Society for Infectious Diseases, Romanian Association of Parasitologists, Romanian Association of Laboratory Medicine and the Romanian College of Physicians.

Prof. Dr. Tudor Ovidiu Rares Olariu

Specialist Gastroenterology Musta Ioan-Octavian (1959) is Chief Gastroenterology Comp, a lecturer from the Department of Medical Semeiology, "Victor Babes" University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara, Romania, and MD Internal Diseases. He obtained his degree from the University of Medicine Timisoara in 1984 and his Specialty in Internal Medicine in 1994. He was a Physician at the County Hospital of Oradea from 1984 to 1987, a Physician at the Dispensary of Nadrag from 1987 to 1991, Resident Physician in Internal Medicine at the Municipal Clinical Hospital Timisoara from 1991 to 1994, Specialist in Internal Medicine from 1994 to 1998, Lecturer at the Department of Medical Semeiology, "Victor Babes" University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara from 1992 to the present. He obtained his MD Internal Medicine from 1998 to 2009, and Specialist Gastroenterology from 2000 to the present. Is a member of the Gastroenterology Society Romania, Membru al Asociatiei Stiintifice Timisoara Medical, and Membru al Societatii Nationale de Endoscopie. Between his publication, are included: Lecture on medical emergencies, Lecture on Medical Semeiology, and Lecture on Surgical Semeiology. Language skills: English, French, German.

Dr Ligia Kovacs is a Medical doctor born and raised in Timisoara. From a young age, what she wanted most was to help people, that's why she chose a career in medicine. She is a Primary Care Physician in the occupational medicine department of the Timisoara Municipal Hospital. She has been treating patients with occupational diseases for 12 years.

University Assistant and PhD Student. Dr Marin Ioana graduated in Medicine from “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara (UMFT) in 1993. After graduating, she worked for 3 months in the Oncology Department of the SCMUT Hospital. She completed the master's in “Healthcare Unit Management”, Faculty of Medicine Craiova, (2006-2008). She specialized in occupational medicine and worked in several private Clinics of Occupational Health in Timisoara. Since 2019 is a university assistant at UMFT, Medicine Faculty and a doctoral student. Her main field of research is occupational exposure correlated with arterial stiffness, occupational stress and burnout. She authored 5 articles in the field of cancer, ergonomics and arterial stiffness correlated with stress in medical personnel. She is a member of the Romanian Occupational Health Society since 2014, an EASOM member since 2019 and in Multidisciplinary Heart Research Center from UMFT since 2021.

Rat Ruja is the Principle nurse in Occupational Medicine Compartment. She graduated from the Nursing Highschool in Timisoara in 1989 and from the ‟Ana Aslan” National College in Timisoara (post-graduate high school) in 1997. From 1989 to 1990 she worked as a nurse at "Louis Țurcanu Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children Timișoara". From 1990 to 2011 she was a principal nurse at SCMUT in the Occupational Medicine Compartment, and starting from 2011 has been working as a head nurse and coordinating the activity of the medium-level medical staff in the same Compartment. She participated in professional training courses organised by the "Romanian Order of the General Medical Nurses, Midwives and Medical Nurses".

Mita Alina worked from 1992 to 1995 in the County Emergency Hospital " Pius Brînzeu " Timisoara, in the Sports Medicine Clinic, she is currently working in the Municipal Emergency Clinical Hospital in Timisoara (SCMUT) as a registered nurse since 1995. From 1995 to 2003 she has been working in the Internal Medicine Clinic, and from 2003 until the present she is working in the Occupational Medicine Compartment. She has been teaching general nursing from 2010 to 2014 (post-high school sanitary school) at " Ana Aslan National College of Timisoara. Graduated from Health Highschool of Timisoara in 1992 2, Psychology Department of Tibiscus University of Timisoara in 2008, and from General Medical Assistance of Victor Babes University of Medicine & Pharmacy Timisoara in 2018.

Nurse Mita Alina

University assistant Livia-Cristina Borcanis an occupational health physician. She graduated from UMF "Victor Babeș" Timișoara, class of 2004 and worked as an intern doctor in 2005. For 6 months she worked in the oncology department of SCMUT; since 2016 she has been employed at the Occupational Medicine discipline of UMF "VICTOR BABES" Timișoara as a PhD student, and since 2020 as a University Assistant in the same discipline. She graduated from the Doctoral School studies in 2019 with the study "STUDIES IN THE FIELD OF SULPHIDE HYDROGEN AND OF SOME PHYTOCOMPOUNDS WITH ACTION ON THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM". She has participated in local and international scientific events and also in training courses regarding research and the dissemination of results. She is a member of the Romanian Occupational Health Society and the Multidisciplinary Heart Research Center.
